Taos Area High School Mountain Bike Team Wraps Up Second Season!
The 2016 fall high school mountain bike season wrapped up with Taos Composite finishing the regular season by earning 8th place of 28 Division 2 teams in the South conference! Taos had 8 athletes qualify for the Colorado State Championship race. Of particular interest is the fact that half of those qualifying for State were girls, an unusual and delightful occurrence. Over 1000 high school athletes competed in the league this year. Taos Composite was honored with the Colorado League “Trailblazer Award” for 2016 as the team that overcame huge amounts of adversity and grew even stronger throughout challenges.
2015 was the inaugural season for the new Taos Area High School Mountain Bike Team, a program of Field Institute of Taos. This is a “composite” team that accepts high school riders from across the region (loosely defined as Northern New Mexico). Coaches are trained and experienced in riding and racing. The team is licensed and insured as part of the National Interscholastic Cycling Association. Check out their website for more info. We believe strongly in the NICA Core Values and are super excited to be part of something BIG. We are part of the Southern Colorado League and participate in up to 5 races during the fall season.
We practice three days a week during the season. Thanks to many donors, scholarships are available. Busy schedules are accommodated and fun is promised.
THANK YOU to our 2015 SPONSORS who made it possible for the team to travel to 5 races by covering all associated costs! We are currently looking for 2016 sponsors so please let us know if you can help.
