CITs and Junior Counselors
Youth Leadership Programs
Please note: In 2021, we are only able to hire individuals who live within a 50-mile radius of Taos, due to state guidelines and COVID safety protocols. Please click HERE to view our most current COVID Health and Safety Guidelines.
Our Youth Leadership programs have grown rapidly and now allow us to employ as interns and volunteers approximately 60 young people ages 10 and up (pre-COVID). This mentorship component of Field Institute of Taos is a vital aspect of our vision. We hire both Counselors In Training (volunteers) and Junior Counselors (paid interns) to work in all aspects of our summer programs as well as in our after school programs. We strongly encourage these motivated individuals to continue participating in our programs in addition to their work experience to enhance personal growth and leadership. Past participation in FIT programs is required in most cases. We may consider applications from youth who have not been FIT participants only if we do not fill our positions from within our pool of FIT youth. Being a CIT or JC in the past does not guarantee a position this year. We count on our CITs and JCs to be reliable and enthusiastic. Please only apply for dates that you are available!
2021 COUNSELORS IN TRAINING (applications due April 30)
We will be able to bring on some CITs for the 2021 season but there will not be as many as past years due to COVID restrictions. We missed everyone last summer!
The Counselors In Training program is an internship where individuals are selected to assist with younger age groups in Field Institute of Taos camps. CIT applicants must have previous experience as “campers” in our programs and must be at least 10 years old. Applicants should have a high level of enthusiasm, a strong commitment, and the ability to work with groups of children. CITs, once selected, are required to attend a half-day training session prior to beginning work (Sunday May 23 from 9am-noon). This training will cover rules, safety, and suggestions and will include CIT’s, Junior Counselors and other staff.
CIT’s will gain valuable experience in leadership, teaching, and teamwork. Each CIT will receive a “letter of reference” upon the completion of their volunteer work, if requested.
2021 JUNIOR COUNSELORS (applications due by April 30)
We will be able to bring on a few JCs for the 2021 season but there will not be as many as past years due to COVID restrictions. We missed everyone last summer!
In 2021, we will hire a few paid Junior Counselors (ages 14 and up). Individuals with past CIT experience will have priority in the hiring process. Each Junior Counselor will work for four weeks with ages ranging from six through 15 years old. Junior Counselor positions are for highly motivated individuals with a talent for working with young people. Junior Counselors are required to attend a half-day training session prior to beginning work (May 23 from 9am-noon).This training will cover various topics in leadership and teamwork.
Please download and complete application forms and get them to us on or before April 30th!
