Riding for Focus

In 2024, we partnered with a local school to apply for an Outride Riding for Focus grant (www.outridebike.org/ridingforfocus). The school was awarded the grant and received 35 bikes and helmets and a complete cycling curriculum with the goal of teaching safety and skills, physical and mental wellness via bicycles in PE class. The school was able to get additional funding for bike tools and a secure shed with bike hooks to store the bikes and helmets. FITaos coaches implement the program alongside the school’s PE teacher with a focus on social, emotional, congnitive, and physical growth and well being, team building, and fun. We are able to work with all levels of riders as well as teach students who have never learned to ride a bike in a supportive environment. As of spring of 2025, we have worked through the full curriculum five times with four different middle school classes. We have led a total of 60 cycling PE classes as well as 6 off campus rides where students use their skills on a local trail upon completion of the Riding for Focus curriculum.
